New sports bar brings old school vibes to downtown San Diego

Whether you want to watch a game on TV or enjoy comfort food, the new sports bar in downtown San Diego, 1919, will take you back in time with its menu, décor and attitude that's inspired by the 1919 Chicago "Black Sox Scandal."

The downtown establishment is exposed with brick walls, bar stools with baseball stitching, and large leather booths are the name of the décor game at 1919. The playful venue has two floors spanning two adjacent spaces. The main dining floors have 30 tables and there is a private dining room to accommodate up to 16 guests for private parties.

The kitchen will stay open until 1:19 a.m., catering to night owls who aren’t quite ready to turn it in. Their grand-slam menu has an impressive lineup of players like the 1919 Dog (classic boiled beef dog with a pretzel bun), Fried Chicken Skins and Rich Man’s Grilled Cheese. Their Pickle Back program features cucumber, strawberry, pineapple jalapeno and green apple pickle backs to be paired with some of your favorite whiskey and tequila. There’s no better combination than creative cocktails, savory food and an aggressive game!
