Grind & Prosper Hospitality, the San Diego-based restaurant group behind Miss B's Coconut Club, in Mission Beach, and Carlsbad’s Park 101, is set to open a new spot in early 2019: Louisiana Purchase. With a New Orleans-based chef who has relocated to San Diego and an architect specializing in blending outdoor and indoor spaces, locals are in for a Southern treat.
Louisiana Purchase, opening at the corner of University Avenue and Louisiana Street, will feature NOLA-inspired dishes and cocktails, with big and bold seasonal flavors. The venue is a courtyard concept, from the inside out, with a large wrap-around patio and atrium-style aesthetics designed by local architect Jeff Svitak of Jeff Svitak Inc.
“We want guests to feel the authentic and rich New Orleans-vibes combined with Sothern California progressiveness when they walk through the doors,” says Pete Cich, partner of Grind & Prosper Hospitality Group (G&P).
G&P’s Culinary Director, Chef Quinnton Austin (AKA Chef Q), recently made the trek from New Orleans to San Diego, bringing the Southern culinary flare of The Big Easy to our local dining scene. He has roots in Louisiana and early experience delving into the Bayou’s culinary culture. Chef Q’s formal training at the Culinary Institute of New Orleans laid the groundwork for a well-seasoned career, and his past experience spans the globe with French, Caribbean and Italian exposure, spicing up his ever-evolving repertoire.
The momentum builds for Chef Q as he brings flavors of the Bayou to Louisiana Purchase, with a stylish menu centered around reimagined versions of modern and classic New Orleans-style comfort foods. You can expect to find savory alligator cheesecake with crawfish cream sauce, Moroccan BBQ lamb chops, and Southern-style BBQ shrimp with sweet potato cornbread on the menu. The cocktail list offers Southern classics with a twist, designed by G&P partner and bar manager Rob McShea.
Louisiana Purchase will serve dinner nightly form 4 p.m. to midnight and offer a boozy brunch starting at 11 a.m. on weekends. The restaurant is located at 2305 University Avenue, San Diego CA, 91911.
