Coronado's Primavera Ristorante will not reopen following its closure as part of the state’s COVID-19 mandated shutdown.
The popular family-owned and operated Italian restaurant has long been a cornerstone of Coronado. Husband and wife, Cristos and Jeannette Stavros, opened Primavera in 1989. Following Cristos’ passing, Jeannette and their daughter, Denise Stavros, have been operating the restaurant since 2014. Prior to the order for restaurants to close, Primavera has had some of its best years, yet.

“This decision was not an easy one for my mother and I,” said Denise. “Serving Coronado with a staff that feels like family has brought my mother and I immense joy, however we have decided it is better to end this chapter now, with more than 30 years of memories to cherish, then reopen with so many unknowns. Being a part of Coronado’s story as a favorite neighborhood restaurant through generations of guests is something we will always treasure.”
Through the years Primavera has been awarded many accolades, including “Best Italian Fare” by Coronado Lifestyle Magazine; Channel 8’s Unknown Eater Award for “Best Italian Restaurant” in San Diego County; TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018; TripExperts Experts’ Choice and Best of San Diego awards. Primavera also received a rating of 4.5 out of five stars for food on Zagat.com.
Primavera Ristorante is currently located on 932 Orange Ave in Coronado.
