On Saturday, January 20th from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. local businesses and volunteers are coming together to support a young girl’s battle with cancer. In November of 2017, at the age of 16, Encinitas resident Kira Stanley was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

Park 101, in Carlsbad, is hosting a dinner fundraiser with food and drink, along with a raffle and silent auction to help assist Kira and her family. At 8:00 a.m., earlier that same day, there will be a surfing competition at Moonlight Beach, in Encinitas, where she worked as a surf instructor. The entire community is invited to come out to support Kira and her fight.

Just weeks away from taking her driver’s test and eager to purchase a car she worked all summer to save money for, Kira began experiencing double vision in late September. Double vision turned into headaches and feelings of nausea. After many visits to doctors and several trips to the ER, it was discovered that Kira has an aggressive and inoperable brain tumor. Despite this news, Kira has remained extremely positive, optimistic and happy. She has already been focusing on how to give back by coming up with the ‘Brain Tumor Hall Pass’ movement, a tool to help others with similar conditions.

If not able to attend, show support by visiting https://bthp.store/, a store started by friends and family to sell ‘Brain Tumor Hall Pass’ shirts and other gear.

Sponsors include: Hansen Surfboards, Nixon, Concept Surf Shop, Superbrand, LEUS DAKINE, SPY, Brixton, Sticky Bumps Surfwax & Accessories, Sun Bum, Ideoli Group, G Squared Computing, Naked Cake Farm, My Marquee SD.
