Rock and Roll musical hits San Diego

From September 14th through October 21st, The Old Globe welcomes to the stage, The Heart of Rock and Roll. An award- winning comedic musical inspired by the songs of legendary musician Huey Lewis and the News. This show hits all the high notes! Not only are you moving and grooving in your seat, singing along, you are drawn to the characters and their story. This is contributed to the witty, delightfully cheesy and currently relevant writings by Jonathan Abrams and Tyler Mitchell. The show delivers on so many levels. It was refreshing, promising, an enthusiastic collaboration. It was electrifying and entertaining. It moved the fluidity with laugh out loud moments. The performers were charismatically brilliant, captivating and beyond talented which wowed the crowd bringing us to our feet for a standing ovation. You exit jovial, opening dialogue to your date, “which part did you like best”, “what song was your favorite”.

Young and old alike, if you are a fan of Huey Lewis, a fan for musicals and more importantly a fan for smiling relishing in a jukebox type of fun than this show should not be missed.

Like the musical it showcases, The Old Globe is a must see! The Old Globe is an icon and San Diego staple with a mission statement to preserve, strengthen and advance American theatre. It is nestled west of Balboa park behind the picturesque Balboa Tower. Whichever way you walk to catch the show, you are in the presence of enchantment, cultural sights adorned with historical beauty.

If time permits (which it always should) stop in to Corner Drafthouse. A wonderful local “corner” spot where the atmosphere, food and service were excellent. The fish and chips were delightful. Light, meaty with crunchy flavorful dredge. Blue cheese coleslaw was a savory addition to the entrée. Pair with a Happy Hour house margarita or one of their seventy drafts on tap, I am grateful to be in San Diego.
