Rouleur Brewing Company coming to North County

A careful balance of complexity, inspiration and refinement, Rouleur Brewing Company is bringing innovative and sophisticated beer to Carlsbad. Owner Rawley Macias will launch in North County early this year with a line up of beers that pay homage to the old while embracing the new style of craftsmanship.

Macias has been an avid homebrewer for over a decade. With roots as an engineer and certified craft beer judge, it was only a matter of time before he set out on his own to create a full scale brewery. The 2,000 square-foot space will include a 500 square-foot tasting room with ten taps, six of which will pour Rouleur’s staples, leaving four for seasonal and specialty offerings. Production can accommodate up to 1,800 barrels a year.

“We’re rule benders,” said Macias. “Our beer doesn’t fit the traditional style guidelines and it’s something we’re very proud of. We can’t wait to share it with San Diego.”

In addition to his love for beer, Macias is a devoted cyclist, hence the namesake of his brewery. The rouleur in cycling is a multifaceted athlete who thinks outside the box and is capable of all roles. They don’t specialize in one aspect of cycling, instead, they are considered strong “all-arounders.” Applying this mindset to his brewery, Macias’ gears are constantly moving and developing new and enticing flavor profiles.

While Rouleur Brewing Company is relatable to cyclists, it’s not exclusive to them. Macias is making beers for the novice to the connoisseur alike. Core beers include The Domestique (blonde ale), The Sprinteur (red ale), The Puncheur (pale ale), The Grimpeur (dark ale), The Clydesdale (IPA) and The Soloist (golden strong ale). All names are influenced by cycling; The Sprinteur is a red ale, which presents a chewy malt profile with dark fruits and caramel in short bursts, much like the explosively fast cyclist for which it’s named.

“Our goal is to combine craft and creativity through simple, unique ingredients,” said Macias. “We look forward to opening our tasting room doors for San Diegans to experience our rule bending brews.”

Rouleur Brewing Company opens at 5840 El Camino Real, Suite 101 Carlsbad, CA 92008, in H.G. Fenton’s brand new Brewery Igniter. Flagship and specialty beers will be available in the tasting room and at local bars and restaurants this year. Fans can expect to-go growlers and crowlers immediately, as well as a 750ml bottles, to be available for purchase in late 2017.
